Wonder

Josie loved to inspect and then collect sticks, rocks, dandelions, and crystals. She believed that gemstones gave you power. Josie's most recent favorite color was yellow and the rainbow. She took time to observe and create meaningful friendships. And even though Josie was only 4, she possessed a deep and wise understanding of what it meant to hold boundaries and create space for her needs.

She was able to clearly articulate this need, one time even telling Dodo (her Dad), "I just want to be alone with my thoughts."

In an effort to encourage children and adults alike to take time to be with their thoughts, to wonder about the world around them, and reflect on their life, values, and goals, we are working towards creating a reflection circle at the botanical gardens. The Botanical Gardens of the Piedmont is currently undergoing an expansion effort with a design focused on healing and restoration and engaging the natural world. Current design plans highlight a children's discovery center.

This effort will take multiple years, but our vision is to have a statue similar to Josie's picture here, with seats and spaces to create opportunity for other people to be alone with their thoughts and engage in the natural world around them. Check back here in the future for updates.

In the meantime, we encourage you to find your own quiet and calm spaces to think your thoughts.
